Nick’s

Marisa American, Eat, Eat, The Outskirts of LA

THE GET DOWN

No trip to Laguna Beach is complete without a meal at Nick’s. Let’s get right to it and start with the asparagus fries. Do NOT even hesitate on it one bit. I mean, asparagus IS a vegetable after all.

And then there’s the blackened fish sandwich. It’s stacked so high that you need a moment to figure out a plan of attack. But once you get the hang of it, you will be ALL IN.

Nick’s will be your best afternoon date. Weather your’re sitting solo at the bar noshing on some deviled eggs, or walking in with the family on a hot afternoon, you gather the sense that everyone knows each other here.

If you eat at Nick’s in the “off season” aka once the summer ends, you might even be able to snag a table without a reservation. But if you do have to wait (and waiting is well worth it), the tots will be plenty occupied at the beach across the street so get on the list and leave you’re number at the host stand. They will text you when your table is ready (YES!).

Nick’s has a traditional American clubhouse vibe. The space is tight, so get friendly with your neighbor. There is always interesting conversation to be had at Nick’s and if you’re lucky enough, your neighbor might even let you try some of their mac n cheese.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
