The Galley in Newport Beach

Porsche Davis American, Eat, The Outskirts of LA

THE GET DOWN

The Galley is one restaurant you won’t find by accident, which is ALL the more reason to eat here. You have to know where The Galley is to find it… and I’m about to let you in on a local secret. This place will especially come in handy if you’ve had it with the crowds at Fashion Island and are looking for an off the beaten path adventure|meal to get you to a place of calm place before a long car ride home.

Plug the address into the GPS so you won’t second guess the fact that you’re headed right into a residential area and see no other restaurants or coffee shops around. The Galley in Newport Beach sits alongside the canals and boats on Harbor Island. The Galley is a very small, very casual and fairly quiet family run diner since the 1930’s.

Upon entering, you’ll immediately get the sense that everyone knows everyone here. And they do. Locals have been flocking to this small spot for ages and definitely keep it on the DL. Shhh. You’ll find just about every American classic on the menu at The Galley. From the Tuna melt (which I HIGHLY suggest) or Turkey club, omelets to a handmade burger and hand cut fries, The Galley will keep the whole family happy.

If you have a runner with some extra energy, then take a long walk alongside the harbor and wear them out first. This way, you can sit in calm and look out the window while you slowly sip your chocolate malt. Yes, malt. Remember those days? Good food. Good peeps. That’s what you’ll find here at the Galley.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
