Let’s face it, you know there are (plenty of) times when you just feel like chit chatting with friends over a light bite and stiff drink. Especially after a long week of toddler meltdowns, school affairs and that inevitable b-day party circuit that never seems to end. Well you are in luck! Bar Calo could be your new favorite spot.
Bar Calo is a perfect place to plop yourself on the couch, bring some games for the kiddos and take a load off. Mind you, it IS still a bar, so earliest hours are best if toting the kids. And they open at 3 pm so you are in luck!
Coming with a runner? Be prepared to work. Bar Calo is not enclosed and the outside siting area sits alongside a parking lot. But if you’re dining with a screamer…I mean, I did mention that Bar Calo is a bar, right? The decimal level will continue to rise as the night goes on no matter who is in the house.
The space itself is open, modern and bright. Comfy and deep couches align the interior windows and there is also a place to hang outside. Yass…Have I convinced you that this can work yet?
Bar Calo serves up your not so typical Mexican cuisine. The chipotle peanut salsa is a bit unusual I must say. But with a Margherita, anything can taste good. As can the Oaxacan Fried Chicken. The slight ting of your tongue can subside with a Chavela. I mean, Bar Calo is a bar after all. Just a heads up for the kiddos though…The food at Bar Calo tends be a little heated.
No worries though, the kiddos can always munch away at some house made chips as they make themselves at home. If they are good, the chef may even make them a plain quesadilla. Did I mention that Bar Calo is next to a comic store with toys? Bribery, iPad, games…be prepared to make it work because you WILL want to stay.
Yes, I never thought that actually planning a hang at a Bar could be possible with kids either, but Bar Calo is just that kind of place.

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
