THE GET DOWN

Located in the most unassuming building on the bustling sunset strip (in fact I passed it several hundred times and didn’t notice it until now), Daikokuya has got to be the best bargain in the Weho area.

If you are in the mood for a bowl of delicious ramen, then Daikokuya is your spot. Daikokuya has an intimate, fun and casual Asian bistro|market type feel. It’s a cool, clever, hip and sneaky little spot alright.

Daikokiya is inviting to all types of eclectic peeps too, so the people watching could be a blast if you hit it at the right time. You’ll spy anyone and everyone at Daikokuya. From punk rockin’ artsy cats to rock n rollers you’d ordinarily find lined up at the Roxy or Viper room on any random evening.

This alone will make your ramen eating an experience. And speaking of ramen… you can’t go wrong with fresh noodles and great ingredients. Though I have the crowd pleasing Tonkasu on repeat, I’m always tempted to stray to the spicy miso ramen. I’ve heard great things about it.

Fortunately the dishes are so reasonably priced, that you can order two and let your tot chomp away at the pace they choose for a change, without trying to get your spoon in their room temperature bowl. Can you imagine? A super hot and spicy bowl ALL to yourself! Yass…Also, Daikokuya’s Tonkasu ramen heats up well the next day, especially if you get the broth thinner (aka less fatty). Seriously, there is no fat that floats to the top and hardens, which I’ve noticed with other ramen places we frequent.

At any rate, if you are in the hood and feel like slurpin a bowl, look for the awful white building on the Northeast corner of San Vicente and sunset, and park free on the top. Daikokuya has it going on.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
